Just say NO to 10 little things and make a BIG difference to your weight loss

Rosemary writes...You don’t have to make massive lifestyle changes to see results on the scales – a little willpower works wonders

To shed pounds effectively, many people worry they’ll have to make dramatic changes to their lifestyle and survive on a diet of lettuce leaves and water. But nothing could be further from the truth.

As the saying goes: “Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves.” Similarly, when it comes to weight loss, it’s the attention to detail in our everyday lives that counts. Saying “no” to tiny, seemingly insignificant temptations can make a huge difference to our overall success. So try to incorporate the following 10 little decisions and watch the pounds fall away.

Say “no” to ...

... an offer from someone to walk your dog or go to the postbox for you. You go.

... adding butter or spread to your bread. Once you get used to eating bread without it, you won’t miss it. Instead, use low-fat sauces and spread them straight on to your bread.

... an offer from someone to carry your shopping for you – carrying all those bags of food will provide a great workout for your muscles.

... leftovers. We all hate waste, but it’s a false economy to believe that eating that last spoonful won’t hurt your weight-loss attempts.

... just one little sweet – it could have more calories than you think. One Jelly Baby has 20 calories and an M&S Butter Mintoe has 35 calories.

... just one biscuit – even the most unexciting rich tea biscuit will give you around 40 calories, while a chocolate digestive will give you 80! Eat one chocolate digestive every day – and you could gain 10lb in a year!

... one more glass of wine. With 100 calories a glass and the inevitable weakening willpower once you’ve had a drink, you need to be extra vigilant here!

... a night out on the evening you go to your Rosemary Conley Class. It’s not just the extra calories you’ll consume, but you’ll break your routine of a weekly weigh-in and workout. Miss just one week and it could easily break your routine and discipline.

... a night of drinking fruit juice mixers at the bar. While orange juice is full of vitamin C, you could down hundreds of unwanted calories if you drink it all night. Either mix it with sparkling water or go for slimline drinks.

... a lift from the bus stop to the office door. Remember, every step you take burns valuable extra calories.
