Rosemary Conley has welcomed in 2014 with a bang, by unveiling an exciting new image and direction for the entire brand!

Mr & Mrs Slimmers of the Year 2013 lose almost 15 stone between them to see a lot less of each other.

Diane and David Wanklyn from Polesworth, Tamworth both piled on the pounds for different reasons, but, joining forces to tackle their weight problems made them a formidable duo, and helped them to lose a staggering 14st 12lb between them to now see a lot less of each other.

After shedding an astounding 9st 6lb, 46-year old Diane, who used to weigh 21st 2lb and wear a dress size 24/26 now weighs just 11st 10lb and wears a dress size 10/12. Her 54-year old husband David’s top weight reached 16st 4lb before he joined Diane at her local Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Club and succeeded in shedding an impressive 5st 6lb to now weigh just 10st 12lb. His waist has reduced from 40” to 30” and his chest size has gone from 46” to 38”.

Diane and David have been crowned the Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Magazine Mr & Mrs Slimmers of the Year 2013 and are two of twelve Slimmers of the Year 2013 who have lost a staggering 102 stone between them. They received their award – along with £1,000 cash – from Rosemary Conley, CBE, at a glittering ceremony held at the London Marriott County Hall Hotel on Thursday 3rd January and are featured in the February issue of Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness magazine, on sale now and on Rosemary’s free internet TV channel, www.rosemaryconley.tv.

When Diane married for the first time, at the age of 21, she was a size 10 and a healthy 11st, but her problems with her weight started two years later when she was pregnant with her son and was hospitalised for 20 weeks due to a risk of pre-eclampsia. “Friends and family would bring chocolates and sweets, which I’d mindlessly chomp on throughout the day,” says Diane, who, by the time she came out of hospital, was pushing 16st.

When Diane split from her husband she found, as a single mum, her weight was at the bottom of her priority list. It was around the time that she met Dave and within three years, they had moved in together and were happily married. But, whilst Diane struggled with her weight, Dave was then a healthy 11st.

Rosemary Conley class finderOver the next two decades, Diane became a yo-yo dieter and despite having some weight-loss success by attending a Rosemary Conley class, as soon as she stopped attending the classes, Diane would put it all back on again. It was only when David gained weight and decided to join the Rosemary Conley class with her, that Diane had the strength to end this vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting.

David, a miner, began to suffer severe pains in both knees caused by arthritis. Over the years he ate more and more and became less active, so the weight piled on. “It was a strenuous job and by the evening, I’d be exhausted. I’d start the day with a full English breakfast to give me enough energy for the day ahead and then I’d come home to enjoy a roast dinner before tucking into sweet treats in front of the TV. My vice was biscuits,” says David, who, at the age of 50, weighed 16st, which only added to his knee pain.

In 2010, Dave had knee-replacement surgery on his right knee. In the same year, seeing unflattering photographs taken of the couple on holiday was the catalyst they needed to lose weight and in December they both started following Rosemary Conley’s diet.

By February 2011, Diane had lost 8lb whilst Dave had lost a stone but, knowing that a weekly weigh-in would help her reach her goal, Diane, who was also suffering from knee problems, joined the Rosemary Conley class once again. In the first week, Diane lost 9lb and a few weeks later, David decided to join her.

The pair both admit they wouldn’t be where they are today without each other’s support and by planning and eating the same meals together, and having the healthy competition with each other to see who could lose the most weight, by August 2011, David reached his target weight of 10st 12lb. By January 2012, Diane had lost 8st and put her new fitness levels to the test by entering a triathlon. Diane reached her goal weight in July 2012 and says: “The best thing about this experience is how close it has made us. Dave and I still support, compete against and torment each other, and we’ve never been happier.”
