Weighing 13st 12lb and struggling to squeeze into size 18s, Kate did not want to set a bad example to her two daughters, who are now aged 15 and 13. Turning 40, too, made Kate aware of her own mortality. “I realised diseases such as diabetes, stroke and cancer couldn’t be ignored,” says Kate. “I felt life was passing me by. I was miserable and full of self-loathing: not the person I wanted to be.”
Kate had always been big and was put on a diet by her doctor at the age of nine. This only led her to comfort eat as she found her grandmother, with her bottomless biscuit barrel and chocolate tin, to be a soft touch. By the age of 15, Kate weighed almost 13st and struggled to find trendy clothes, like the ones her friends used to wear, to fit her.
After her two children were born Kate found she was tied to the house a lot and she fell into the all-too-common trap of eating the children’s leftover so, as Kate’s children grew then so did her waistline.
Logging on to the internet slimming club, Kate soon got to grips with the site and stuck to the diet plan to lose a staggering 11lb in the first two weeks. Adds Kate: “Losing weight this way is brilliant for anyone who finds it hard to get to a class. You have so much help and support, which you can’t get if you try to slim on your own. Rosemary’s site is packed with great tips, help and advice to help you lose weight and keep it off for good.”
