Each week I run 11 classes in Harpenden, St Albans & Hemel Hempstead. My members are losing lots of weight and are getting fitter each week.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME - FROM FAT TO FIT! IF I CAN DO IT....SO CAN YOU!
I know how difficult it can be to lose weight as I have always battled with my weight. At my biggest, I reached a staggering 18st 11lbs.
I joined my local Rosemary Conley class but was so ashamed of myself that I didn't want to know what I weighed. My instructor just told me how much I had lost each week until I neared my target. One and a half years later I was 7 stones lighter and the happiest and fittest I had been in years.
I loved the exercise so much, that I found the time to start going 4 or 5 times a week. Once I had reached my goal weight I was approached to go on and train as an instructor myself. In January 1998 I was running 3 classes for the Franchisee I went to and two years later I was running eight classes.
Six years on & I was in a position to buy my own Franchise and here we are today.
Many of my members say how life changing joining our classes has been; not only for their weight losses and rediscovering a healthy lifestyle but also for friendships formed and the fun they have when they come to class. St Albans’ Slimmer of the Year Now Able to Live Her Life at 10 Stone Lighter!
Having spent her adult life caring for others, St Albans based Sharon Farrell had forgotten how to look after herself. In 2009 at over 20 stone, Sharon encountered a life changing moment which gave her the jolt she needed to start improving her lifestyle and to go on to become the Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Club’s 40+ Slimmer of the Year 2013.
Sharon’s reliance on eating for comfort commenced after the sudden death of her father when she was 19 years old. From then onwards, Sharon spent most of 20s and 30s yo-yo dieting and would lose a stone and then put it back on plus a little bit more!
In 2004, Sharon’s mother became seriously unwell and needed care and so Sharon maintained her full time job during the day and would then care for her mum during the night and over the weekends. This all led to Sharon going out less and eating a lot more. It also had a detrimental effect on her mental health and in 2006 was diagnosed with depression.
With her mum’s health deteriorating, Sharon took a career break to be able to be the full time carer for her mum, who sadly passed away. The following months for Sharon were extremely tough as her depression worsened and her weight soared. Although having support from family and friends Sharon struggled and would attempt to lose weight but would put it straight back on again.
Looking back at that time Sharon commented “I was in such a bad way both physically and mentally, I just existed. I was so unfit that I was unable to walk anywhere without getting out of breath. Any exertion left me sweaty and uncomfortable. I hated the way I looked and felt.”
Sharon’s turning point happened on a bus, on her way to work. Although the bus was busier than usual Sharon was able to get a seat. A few stops into her journey and older gentlemen got on the bus and was shown the empty seat next to Sharon. In a voice loud enough for everyone on the bus to hear, he stated “I can’t sit next to THAT, she is taking up both the seats.” Extremely embarrassed and in floods of tears, Sharon got up and got off the bus at the next stop.
That night, Sharon bought the Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Magazine and found her local class. From her first attendance at our St Albans class, Sharon realised that although she was ashamed to weigh over 20 stone, this was the best decision she had ever made.
From the advice she took from classes, from understanding about the necessity of being active and the overall importance of making the right lifestyle choices, just 28 months later Sharon had lost an amazing 10 stone, literally half the size she was!
Losing the weight has changed Sharon’s life; she no longer needs medication for depression and is now in control of her life. Sharon has found a new love of exercising and has developed the confidence to try new activities
Sharon’s family and friends have expressed their admiration for her hard work and perseverance and are genuinely amazed at the difference in Sharon, her outlook on life, her energy and the joy of seeing her laugh again.
For Sharon, it is very simple, having lost the weight in a healthy and manageable way, she is finally living her life!
Doting Dad Slimmer of The Year 2012
Father of two Michael Jones joined our classes in February 2010 with his wife and lost a staggering 8st 2 1/2 lbs. He had always been large and lived a very sedentary lifestyle. As a computer programmer he found himself sitting in front of his computer all day and then coming home and watching tv or playing on his x-box, giving little of his time to his family.
On the few occasions Michael did go out with his son, he struggled to keep up with him. The last straw came when he was asked to leave a roller coaster ride because he was too big.
Michael found himself getting very strict with his son which put an even bigger strain on their relationship.
After a comment from his wife about how she had more photo's of his his son with his friends dad's than she did with his own, he realised he needed to do something about it and become more involved in family life. His determination to become a better dad paid off as the weight dropped and his son is now so proud to be seen with him.
Life has changed considerably for Michael as he has now also qualified as an exercise to music instructor.
He know's he has so much he can pass on to other's, so still attends up to six classes a week to help keep his weight off and stay fit & healthy
Regional Slimmer of The Year 2011
When Heather joined our Harpenden class in January 2009 she weighed in at the heaviest she had ever been. Within four weeks Heather lost her first stone and by the end of the year, Heather had shed 7st. After about six months, all of her health problems were improving. She felt fitter and more supple, so her joint pain had eased and her IBS cleared up completely.
After all Heather's hard work we were thrilled when she won the award for Regional Slimmer of the Year 2011 !
Heather now has a waist smaller than one of her thighs when she was at her biggest.

Each class consists of a weigh-in, a short motivational talk offering nutritional help & advice & a fun-filled 45 minute workout. It is your class and you can choose the combination that works for you, weigh in and work out, work out only or weigh in only.

If you do want to join in the exercise session please bring with you a bottle of water and wear loose, comfortable clothing and a pair of training shoes. Many members wear leggings and a T-shirt, but whatever you feel happy exercising in is fine with us.
Our classes are friendly and welcoming and there’s a great atmosphere in class. No one is made to feel embarrassed and your weigh-in is very discreet, so, apart from myself and my staff no one else will know how much you weigh. If you are thinking of joining on your own, as many of my members do, there's no need to worry: you're soon amongst friends at a Rosemary Conley class. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a little or a large amount of weight to lose. We can help you and we’re with you every step of the way.
Part of sustaining a healthy active lifestyle is to change and vary the exercise that you do, and as such we offer variety across our classes. From Aerobics to Fitsteps, Interval Training and Kardy O Fun. We also run a 4 weekly Bootcamp to really put you through your paces and are looking forward to adding a Strength programme in the near future.
A LITTLE ABOUT OUR CLASSES
We run 11 classes each week - Monday to Thursday & Saturday's - daytime and evening classes. Everyone is made to feel welcome so don't worry about coming alone. Our classes are suitable for ALL shapes and sizes and ALL ages. Everyone is encouraged to work at a pace that suits them. The exercise is always optional but it really does help speed up your weight loss! We also offer an exercise only option for those who don't want to lose weight but do want to tone up any wobbly bits and improve their fitness.
The main objective to our classes is that they are FUN and easy to do. We have a blast, which is one of the reasons my members have been coming for so long.
